What is expedition cruising?
Expedition Micro Cruising is the most intimate way to explore the world’s last great wildernesses, the Arctic and Antarctica. Unlike conventional expedition cruises carrying hundreds of passengers, our voyages are limited to only 12 guests in the Arctic and 36 guests in Antarctica and South Georgia.
This small scale transforms everything about the guest experience: from the freedom to explore hidden fjords and remote landings, to the camaraderie of travelling with a small group of like-minded explorers.
Why Small is Better: The Essence of Expedition Micro Cruising
Large expedition ships often carry 100–250 passengers. On those vessels, every landing is a logistical operation, with guests waiting in rotation for their turn ashore. By contrast, micro cruises keep numbers so low that everyone can explore together.
More time ashore and on the water – With just a handful of guests, disembarkation is quick. Instead of waiting in line, you’re already stepping into a zodiac, heading towards a penguin rookery or glacier front.
Access to remote places – Our small ships can navigate narrow fjords, ice-choked channels, and shallow bays that larger vessels simply can’t reach.
Flexibility and spontaneity – Conditions in the polar regions change rapidly. We can adjust course to follow a pod of whales, linger longer with a polar bear, or reroute to where the light is perfect for photography.
