A Vessel with Strength in Her Bones
SOLA carries up to 12 guests across eight private cabins, each with its own en-suite, offering practical comfort after days spent gathering data or roaming remote shorelines. Her main saloon is a shared space where stories from the day’s expeditions are told and retold, and the bridge saloon invites you to watch the horizon while learning how the crew reads ice and weather far from usual shipping routes.
Designed to Explore
SOLA began life in 1989 as a sturdy Dutch beam trawler working the North Sea. After decades in commercial fishing, she’s being thoughtfully transformed into a research-focused polar expedition vessel for the 2025/26 season, shaped for projects, science, and the work that matters at high latitudes.
Equipped for Purpose
At 44 metres (144 ft) with a 3,000 hp engine at her core, SOLA is built to stand up to demanding conditions. Her motor-powered design and full-height safety rails make her a dependable platform in rough waters, and her reinforced hull meets Ice Class 6 standards, allowing her to push into first-year ice with confidence.

SOLA’s navigation systems, communications gear, and safety equipment are chosen for reliability and reach — tools that help us and our partners travel deeper into the wild, responsibly and with preparedness. From storing break bulk cargo to hosting workshops on deck, the vessel is shaped to carry ideas, equipment, and explorers into places little visited.
