9 Day Private Svalbard Expedition Itinerary

Day 1

Longyearbyen

Your private expedition begins in Longyearbyen, the most northerly town in the world. After an introduction from our expedition leader and a safety briefing from the Captain, you and your group will sail out of the Adventfjord. As we wave goodbye to Longyearbyen we will not see civilisation for the next 9 days. In the evening we will sail out through the Isfjord and spend time on deck wildlife watching with our guide. Whales are frequent visitors to Svalbard in this area.

Days 2-3

Prins Karls Foreland & Sea Ice

In the morning we approach Prins Karls Foreland, an uninhabited island of beautiful scenery off the west coast of Spitsbergen. We will drop anchor and launch the Zodiac landing craft to go ashore and visit an area where walruses haul out. In the afternoon we will do a wilderness hike. We frequently see Svalbard reindeer here. If the conditions allow we will sail up to the edge of the sea ice which extends all the way to the North Pole. In calm conditions, we will cruise the edge of the sea ice keeping a sharp lookout for wildlife including polar bears that hunt on the ice.

Days 4-6

Exploring the North-West Coast

Every private expedition to Svalbard involves an element of unknown and exploration which is all part of the adventure. Under the guidance of our expedition leader, we will explore the coastline to the North of Spitsbergen and show you the best that the area has to offer. Over the next days, we will explore the coast and visit areas that are rarely visited. The plan is to make shore landings on a daily basis to visit different natural and historical sites including glaciers, do wilderness hikes and spend some time enjoying the raw nature of the Arctic. We can set the itinerary around your groups interests.

Days 7-8

Lilliehook Fjord, Kongsfjorden and Ny-Alesund

As we turn around and head south we explore the area in and Kongsfjorden. Expect majestic glaciers, some of Svalbard’s most beautiful fjords and scenery from the decks. Here we encounter one of Svalbard’s most breathtaking sites, the Lilliehook glacier, one of Svalbard’s largest calving glacier fronts. We will spend time here witnessing nature’s beauty in its rawest form with the option of doing a wilderness hike to a neighbouring fjord. The following day we will do a short sailing to the scientific community of Ny-Alesund, the most northerly settlement on earth. Here there are some interesting historical sites and a great museum.

Day 9

Longyearbyen

In the morning you and your group will arrive back at the port of Longyearbyen after an exiting Svalbard expedition. After breakfast, we make our goodbyes after sharing a wonderful adventure together.

All our itineraries are customisable to git your group and your requirements. The above itinerary is a guide only. A part of any private Svalbard expedition is the flexibility to take advantage of the weather and ice conditions. Our expedition leader will make sure you see as much a possible.

Inside This Private Svalbard Expedition

Our private Svalbard expeditions are aimed at anyone with a passion for exploring the Arctic in a small group on a comfortable small ship cruise and include :

Amazing Wildlife

We will visit areas where walruses haul out, encounter reindeer and Arctic foxes on land, observe whales and other marine life and explore coasts where polar bears are known to roam.

Stunning Scenery

We will encounter mighty glaciers, cruise tranquil steep-sided fjords and spend time outside exploring the beautiful untouched wilderness.

Expedition Vessel With 12 Guests

We believe the best way to experience an environmentally sensitive place such as the Arctic is with a small group of travelers. New expedition cruise ships now take up to 350 passengers, we believe smaller is better.

Expedition Leader and Guide

An aspect of our journeys is to learn about the place you are visiting. Our onboard guides are the core of what we do and will share their passion and knowledge of Svalbard throughout the trip. We offer the best guide to guest ratio available.

Zodiac landing craft for shore landings

Shore landings are the essence of every expedition and your guides will take you exploring on a daily basis. The vessel is equipped with landing craft that can be used to reach remote beaches so you can experience the wilderness firsthand.

Climate Compensated

Caring for the environment is what we do. For every trip we run we plant trees in Greenland to offset the emissions. As a member of AECO, we follow strict guidelines to ensure minimal disturbance to wildlife and natural sites.
