FAQ
What sailing experience do I require?
The great thing about our sailing expeditions is that you don’t require any previous sailing experience as there will be a professional skipper and crew on board. The majority of our sailing adventures are hands-on which means you are actively involved in the sailing of the vessel. If you have never sailed before it’s a brilliant way to get an introduction to sailing. If are an experienced sailor it is a way to develop your skills in remote and challenging environments.
Do we have a guide on board?
For the exploring trips we have an expert guide on board. For the sailing adventures, depending on which trip, there will be the minimum of a highly experienced captain and crew. On all the trips operating in areas where there is a danger posed by polar bears you will be escorted on the shore by a guide or crew trained in polar bear protection.
Will I get seasick?
This varies from individual to individual. If you feel you may be susceptible to seasickness we recommend bringing sea sickness medication with you which is available at most pharmacies. Our crew will be able to give you advice on preventing seasickness such as avoiding alcohol, keeping hydrated, and getting a good amount of rest.
What are the sailing conditions like ?
Arctic sailing is an exhilarating experience and is not always as extreme as it sounds. Coastal trips often have places for shelter in the event of bad weather. During the summer the conditions are variable and vary from calm days to windy days. The interior of the boats are kept warm so you won’t feel cold at night.
